The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio Department of Pediatrics Residency Program is committed to the highest standards for education and clinical care. The goal of the residency program is to train physicians to become competent general pediatricians with sufficient background in the subspecialties and critical care to manage the broad mix of general pediatric and subspecialty problems. With our proximity to the U.S./Mexico border, residents have opportunities to treat children with illnesses they would not see in other parts of the country and manage health problems that have become increasingly common in children such as Type 2 diabetes.

Our program has a significant patient population with an average daily census of more than 100 inpatients at our two hospital sites, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital and University Hospital and 110,000 outpatient visits among our general pediatric, subspecialty, adolescent medicine and emergency center clinics. We offer a wide variety of didactic experiences including morning report, grand rounds, a three year general pediatric continuity clinic curriculum with an emphasis on evidence based medicine and a wide variety of subspecialty conferences. Residents can participate in our nationally recognized residential camp for children with developmental disorders.

We recognize and try to meet the individual needs of each house officer, placing house staff in highly competitive fellowships, academic medicine careers, and urban and small town private practices.

Our program successfully attracts candidates from across the nation with strong academic records who are enthusiastic about Pediatrics and are looking for a program in which to flourish.

If you are looking for a supportive training environment that will allow you to reach your full potential, we invite you to visit us for a closer look.
