Evaluation Day
Depending on the type of evaluation your child needs, the first appointment can last from two to five hours. One of the specialists in developmental-behavioral pediatrics will ask you many questions about your concerns and the child's daily activities, developmental skills and medical history. In some cases, a specialist in child development may be asked to perform additional testing. The developmental-behavioral pediatrics specialist will perform a comprehensive assessment and physical exam, and share with you the results, diagnosis and recommendations. A written report will be mailed to you and the referring physician, and you can copy the report on your own to provide to the school or other agencies working with your child.
Like other businesses in the downtown area, parking can be challenging. Please allow sufficient time for parking and locating the clinic.
For children seen in Autism Clinic, the team is made up of multiple specialists, who will see your child at one time. For children younger than four years old, the physical exam is more comfortable wearing shorts and tank tops for girls-brought from home. For all parents, it may be best to leave other children with another caregiver due to the length of the appointment and to allow you to fully participate in your child's evaluation.
